In just 15 days, we’ll embark on an unforgettable adventure: the Rat Race Trans Andean Coast-to-Coast cycling event in South America.
How did we get here?
I’m not a cyclist—I’m a runner. Back in 2020, I bought my first road bike as a way to cross-train and reduce the risk of injuries that seem to come with age. Cycling was supposed to complement my desire of running marathons, but then the pandemic hit.
With races cancelled indefinitely and endless loops around the same local routes, I started feeling restless. The monotony of running and cycling in the same area left me craving a real challenge.
One day, while aimlessly scrolling through Facebook, I stumbled across a video showcasing an incredible cycling event. It wasn’t just a race; it was an adventure—something that instantly sparked my imagination. The idea of tackling a bucket-list trip like this felt too good to ignore.
As life slowly returned to normal, the thought of combining travel with racing became irresistible. By July 29, 2022, I couldn’t resist anymore—I signed up both Marc and I for this epic journey.
And now, here we are. With just two weeks to go, the excitement (and nerves!) is building as we prepare for what promises to be a life-changing experience.
