We are on our way!
At 7 a.m., we were out the door, our motley crew safely secured in the car along with all our luggage and Marc’s bike. The morning began with a slight adjustment—Flip, the cat, made it abundantly clear he wasn’t going to tolerate the dogs sitting on either side of him. A towel over the sides of his carrier resolved the issue, and harmony was restored.
About 90 minutes later, we arrived in Ingham for a quick visit with our eldest child. After the stop, we were back on the road to the boarding kennel, arriving just after 10 a.m. The mood among the animals was less than cheerful as we left them behind. I’m certain that when we pick them up, both Gibson and Flip will be utterly intolerable for days, if not weeks. Penny and Milo, on the other hand, will likely be thrilled to see us, though I suspect they won’t let us out of their sight for quite some time.
Fortunately, we were able to check in early at our hotel, the Oaks Metropole. Once the car was unloaded, we ventured out to find some lunch—and some first aid. This morning, I woke up with an infected fingernail. A quick Google search led me to UpDoc. After sending photos of my finger, I spoke with a doctor within hours. They appreciated the detailed images and advised that the nail might need lancing if it didn’t improve before we leave Australia. In the meantime, they prescribed antibiotics.
Back at the hotel, we set to work dismantling Marc’s bike. Thankfully, we only needed to remove the wheels and pedals. Still, it took 45 minutes—as we struggled with pedals that were determined to stay attached to the bike.
By the time we were finished, we were both exhausted. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was a treat: twice-cooked pork belly with steamed red cabbage and parsnip purée. I thought it was divine, though Marc wasn’t overly keen on the vegetables.
Now, back in our apartment, we’re more than ready for some well-deserved sleep.
