Day 27 January 28, 2025

The end of our Journey
With our motley crew gathered from the kennel, we began the long drive home. The journey was slow and steady, the thunderous rain drenching the roads and blanketing the car in a steady roar. Conversation was sparse, allowing Marc to focus on navigating the waterlogged roads, where surface water pooled in treacherous swells.
As the rhythmic hum of rain filled the silence, my thoughts turned to the trip—the good, the bad, and the moments of misfortune that had us cursing our luck more than once. Disappointment lingered from not completing our intended journey, yet it has been overshadowed by the remarkable experiences we had instead.
I thought about the things we witnessed: the way dogs were embraced as family, strolling freely through shopping centres and even airports, treated with a level of respect that warmed the heart. In contrast, there were the less fortunate, weaving through the halted traffic to sell their wares at red lights—a stark reminder of life’s inequities.
From start to finish, the country’s deep pride in its Spanish heritage and unwavering faith in God were evident. These, along with the unexpected twists and turns, have left us with memories to cherish.
In time, the sting of disappointment will fade, leaving behind the story of a remarkable journey—one that tested us, surprised us, and, ultimately, brought us closer together.
