The logistical nightmare of taking a bike overseas
We initially planned to bring our bikes, but as we considered adding extra destinations like Puru, Easter Island, or the Galapagos Islands, we were strongly advised by our travel agent not to leave our bikes unattended at the airport or even in a lockbox. Suddenly, so many of our options were off the table. It’s one thing to lug around bags, but hauling two bikes seemed impractical. So, we looked into hiring bikes—but that idea was quickly dashed.
Thankfully, our travel agent, Jodie from Flight Centre Cairns, has been incredible in managing the logistics for bringing our bikes. Flying with Qantas has been a breeze in terms of bike arrangements, but we do need to use a local carrier between Buenos Aires and Santiago, which caused Jodie no end of stress. Fortunately, it’s all sorted now. We’re all relieved that we’re only taking one bike after all.
